This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The importance of mental health education at a young age cannot be overstated. Many of the students in my school have emotional and social needs that are not being met at home or at school. In many classrooms, including my own, emotional development often takes a back seat to academics, leaving students without the skills to cope with challenges like stress, anxiety, and conflicts with peers. I want to focus more on mental health this school year to build a positive foundation in my students' lives.

First grade is a critical time for building emotional and social skills.

This project aims to fill the gap by providing students with books and sensory discs to navigate these formative years with a strong sense of self-awareness, emotional regulation, and healthy coping mechanisms. Additionally, teaching emotional literacy in the classroom promotes an overall positive school climate, reduces bullying, and helps prevent long-term mental health struggles.
