My Students

My third graders are from a small town school in Albemarle, North Carolina, with more than half of our school population coming from low-income families. There is always a high demand for fun sports equipment to keep my students active and engaged when we are outside.

Most of my students come from homes where they do not have access to extra curricular activities such as after school sports.

Having a variety of sports and outdoor equipment available for us when we go outside allows them to have plenty of equipment to explore and to choose from.

My Project

Being active and healthy is so important in today's world, especially with childhood obesity on the rise. I often find it hard to get students to play an organized sport during recess. However, in the past two years, more and more students ask for playground equipment and no one has any available for them to use. By having readily available outdoor equipment including basketballs, footballs and soccer balls, that the four third classes can use, we can plant the seeds to ensure a healthier lifestyle for these children by allowing them to enjoy running and playing with friends. How can we say no to children who want to be active?
