My Students
Setting high expectations in a classroom is so important. Acknowledging and rewards students for meeting those expectations is even more important!
I am a self-contained special education teacher in a high poverty elementary school.
I have 10 special needs students in grades kindergarten through third grade who are full of energy and excitement. My students have a range of academic, social and emotional needs. They have a thirst for learning and for the most part, love being in school. These students work so hard despite the many challenges they face, between learning disabilities, disrupted home lives, and living in poverty. Our classroom is truly like their home away from home. We are a family and everyone works to do their best and be their best everyday!
My Project
My students strive to stay on green everyday or move up to purple and have an OUTSTANDING day! They can achieve this by demonstrating appropriate behavior, making good choices, being a good friend, and by putting forth effort to work to their fullest potential. At the end of the week, those students that have have a great week are able to select a prize from the treasure box. My kids have completely bought into this system! Keeping the treasure box stocked is hard and expensive! With your support I can replenish our treasure box with some new prizes, such as balls, plush bears, paratroopers, certificates, and so much more! These items are sure to be a hit in our classroom treasure box! I am also seeking candy for daily incentives. Who doesn't love candy? Once in a while, if an entire group has done an outstanding job participating and engaging, I will reward the group with a small candy treat! Dum dums and air heads are always a huge hit!

This will keep students working hard in the future and boost their self-esteem for a job well done! With these new treats and rewards I will be able to recognize all of my kiddos for the great things they do in the classroom!
