We currently have about 1600 students of different races and colors. Our school is not the "flagship" school of the county. In fact, we are far from it. Our school does not excel in most sports or many other activities that most of the other schools in our county do. Our school, however, is great at Technology, Skills USA, FBLA, Forensics, and Robotics. We have had many students who have ranked in the top five in the state and a couple who have been nationally ranked. The teachers at our school go above and beyond what is necessary to help our students in anyway possible so they will succeed.
I am trying to get a computer in our classroom so my ESE students, ESOL students, and any other student can create a class newspaper to help others students in their language or special needs area understand the materials presented in class.
The hope of this project is to give students the opportunity to create a class newspaper about what is going on in my classroom and the science department.
Students will interview teachers in the science department, interview other students, and they will give their own personal viewpoints about what is going on in my classroom. Once the students have a topic they want to write about they will write small articles about what is going on from their viewpoint. Our school is trying to improve student writing and I think that by giving students something that every student can read will help the students understand the importance of writing. Once these articles are completed, the students will submit the completed articles to our school newspaper. This will give my classes and the entire school a viewpoint as to what is going on in the science department.
