My Students
I spend every day with 24 little bundles of laughter, challenge, growth, and energy who come to school every day ready to start another day of learning experiences. We learn together in a Title 1 TK - 5th grade STEM prep school that provides breakfast and lunch for over 1,200 students from low-income homes in Hawthorne, CA.
In my classroom, we don't say, "I can't." Instead, we say, "I will try my best." My students have already learned, at the age of five, that life isn't a smooth road.
My goal is to teach them that despite the bends, forks, or bumps in the road, they can accomplish ANYTHING they set their minds upon.
My Project
Our classroom is the center of our instruction in mathematics, STEM, Project Lead the Way, English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Art. And our classroom projector does the heavy lifing in all these areas - it is used for many different functions that all work to enhance learning for various components of our curriculum, particularly STEM lessons.
The students watch videos to learn about their challenges and the engineering concepts behind them.
The projector will be used to project the videos for the students as they are inspired to begin planning and creating their models. The projector allows me to be a facilitator of their learning as they move through the Engineering Design Process using interactive science notebooks. Students will be able to share their plans, notebook documentation, and reflections with the group using the projector during each session.
The classroom also supports small group math instruction. The projector will enhance student conversations by projecting possible strategies and solutions needed to solve math concepts. Manipulatives, notes, videos and pictures will be able to be projected onto the whiteboard to deepen the understanding surrounding math strategies for all learners.
