My Students

Our students are re-occupying their building, after almost a year of being displaced due to a faulty structure. Our old building will have to do while we wait for a new school. Access to computer lab is minimal, so a projector hooked to the Internet will help add depth to our lessons.

We have a mix of students about 40% are free or reduced lunch with 30% of our population being Hispanic.

We don't qualify for state grants because our population isn't poor or diverse enough so our resources are limited. Historically, the suburban school has done really well but recently our growth has stymied.

My Project

Using the Internet to access primary documents, authentic sound bites, visual arts of historical events, will provide my students with more depth and perspective. I often ask, "whose history is this?" When we are limited by our textbooks, we don't get the chance to think for ourselves about perspective and actual history. We learn to be active learners when we can investigate multiple perspectives. An internet based projector will overcome some of the computer lab limits we have.

We have no access to the computer lab.

There are 25 computers for 450 students. First access goes to math, ELA, and special ed so my social studies classes get no way to research documents, play interactive games with history, or use websites to enrich the perspective. There's so much out there! But the textbooks limit us. An Internet linked projector will help us get some access to historical information.
