Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Math and Reading teacher for the 5th and 6th grades for students with learning disabilities in the Bronx, NY. The majority of my kids say they like Math but at the same time, they have difficult times performing mathematical tasks due to the reading part that accompanies it. However, one good thing about my students is that, despite their learning condition, they enjoy math and reading very much, especially if I introduce the lessons to them using technology.
In addition, the attention span of these kids is very limited, so they don't benefit much from a lecture. Therefore, I use more visual aids and manipulatives to keep them focused.
Last year, with the generosity of some people, and through the effort of the Donor's Choose organization, I luckily received a laptop and my students were very much delighted by this. With the laptop, we were able to explore more resources that could aid our lesson and learning, especially video clips from United Streaming, NGS, History Channel, etc.
Obviously, the laptop screen is too small for a class to present a video, hence, I am doing this proposal to solicit a COMPUTER (LCD) PROJECTOR. In this manner, pictures are bigger, more interesting, and more interactive to my students. The LCD projector could also be useful with the Smartboard present in our building.
I want them to receive the knowledge that this technology can provide and let them experience fun-filled activities. I also want them to increase their chances of meeting the academic criteria set for them.
