Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 5th grade students living in Back of the Yards in Chicago don't have many opportunities to feel safe and comfortable, like most children. Our students are resilient despite facing so many stressors outside of school including poverty, homelessness and gang violence. They come to school every day eager to learn. They are not given a choice when it comes to being exposed to extreme violence. As young children, they are witnessing friends and relatives being arrested, jumped, stabbed, or shot. Kids exposed to violence on such a regular basis often internalize fear, anger, and grief. They can become more aggressive, frustrated, violent, and self-destructive as a result
My goal is to succeed in creating a student-centered classroom where these kids have the opportunity to proud, safe and comfortable for as many hours of their day as possible.
All children deserve to feel nurtured, suppored.
My Project
This project will allow me to teach my lessons with an up-to-date projector. Our old projector has been around for years does not always turn on when we need it to. It takes up a lot of unnecessary space in our classroom because of the distance it must be to the board. When it does turn on it is often blurry and hard to see. It also turns different shades of purple and yellow when we have it on for longer than an hour. The projector we are currently using is also difficult to use with modern technology because the adaptions are out-of-date.
