Aloha kākou! My students are curious learners in our bilingual elementary school that spend the school day learning all content areas through 'Ōlelo Hawai'i (Hawaiian language) or English. Both of the language branches at our school have students that are innovative, care about their community, and are excited to learn!
All of my students embody the school's mission of being learners that think critically through their observations of their culture and community, show respect for the past, present, and future knowledge, have respectful values, and promote positive relationships to become powerful agents of change to better their world.
My role as the STEM resource teacher and technology coordinator is to leverage Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math content and resources to support students and teachers in continuing to pursue our school's mission. I have the privilege of working with pre-school to 8th grade students and teachers in both of our school branches.
Through my DonorsChoose.org projects, I strive to provide resources for my own classes as well as support the amazing haumāna (students) and kumu (teachers) at my school!
My Project
My students have been working on learning how to code this year and are now in the process of taking what they have learned to develop their own video games. They have been working on video games that connect coding to content areas like science, math, and more! My students are also passionate about making games that are connected to the work we do to mālama 'āina (take care of the environment) in our community.
The projectors in this project will help students feel empowered to share their final video game projects with others as they see other kids play their games on the big screen.
I have been really impressed with the work that my students have done this year to engage with technology at higher levels and I believe that they deserve the opportunity to share their work in a spectacular way!
