Projecting Our Sound Through Recorders

Help me give my students recorders and new projection technology for their first year of recorder in third grade to help them learn as a class.

My Students

Hello! We are a very small school in rural Southern Illinois with about 150 students in Pre-K through 6th grade. This is only the second year that the students have the opportunity to have any sort of full-time music class at their school and they get music one day a week.

My students love music and are always excited to sing, dance, and learn about instruments.

They love to experience new instruments and music and often walk the halls singing songs we learn in class. For many of the younger students especially, music is their favorite special subject throughout the week. Our district, however, does not have the money to purchase instruments or technology and supplies for the music program.

My Project

This year, the third grade students will be playing recorders! With this, they will improve their music reading and rhythm reading skills. They, however, need some help tracking where they are in the music, so I am also requesting a projector so that we can follow along with the music as a class on a bigger screen.

With many low income families, it is difficult to ask them to bring in money for their own recorders, so I am hoping to get a classroom set to keep at the school.

That way, all of the students are able to participate each year.

The students are already so excited to play recorders in the spring and they are working hard to earn them.
