In less than a few short weeks my students will enter the door of my classroom excited and eager to learn, but sadly they will be strides behind their peers. My hope is that by obtaining an LCD projector for my classroom I will be able to have my students experience interactive and engaging lessons.
Currently on my roll for September I have 30 students.
These children are from a diverse, urban area and the majority of them speak a different language at home. In fact, at my school there are over 40 languages that are being spoken at home. My students are so diverse in their abilities, backgrounds, and experiences. My students come from all over the world. Many are from Haiti, Palestine, Cambodia, China, Jamaica, and so on. My school is a Title One school that serves over 1,200 children and sadly there is not enough technology to serve the needs of all these children. Our school district is underfunded from severe budget cuts. This projector is just the thing I need to enable them to stay competitive in today's society. Long gone are the days of overhead projectors and transparencies to convey an idea or concept to students, but sadly in my class that is all I have to work with. My second grade classroom is housed in a "temporary" trailer that is over 25 years old.
My Project
Our environment certainly creates obstacles to learning, but if you observed my students, you would never know it. They love to learn! As their teacher, I am always trying to make every lesson interactive to keep them engage and eager to learn more. Having a LCD projector would not only allow my students to be exposed to current technology and be competitive in today's society, but they would be able to visually see things while they hear about them during a lesson. There are endless ways I would use this projector on a daily basis, so that it would have an absolute immediate impact on my students. For example: it would allow us to view Power Point presentations, You Tube videos, online libraries, research websites, online learning games and so much more!
This projector would be a powerful and interactive tool that could do so much for my classroom of learners.
I would love for my class to truly have the world at their fingertips and to create a community of researchers that collaboratively partake in multimedia projects, delve deeper into various content areas, and overall enjoy new hands on interactive learning experiences. An LCD project would allow this all to happen!
