This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are very creative, energetic, and excitable four and five year olds. They are used to everything being available at the touch of a button. They live in the inner city and do not have the advantages that the suburban children enjoy. They come from a predominantly, low economic background. Over ninety-five percent of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I want to give my students an opportunity to learn with technology. As a Title I school, we try to provide as many rich materials and experiences for our children who otherwise may not be granted these opportunities outside of the classroom. With my commitment to expanding my young students' academics, I want to provide them with resources and materials to support their growth. By using modern technology, not only will they be motivated they will also be better prepared for the 21st century. I want to level the playing field with our suburban counterparts. These children deserve better! I want to "Project their future" by giving them the opportunity to tell their stories with technology.
My Project
With a projector, portable screen, bluetooth speaker, and laptop, I could show digitial stories, presentations, videos, photographs, slideshows - tools that would enrich lessons and benefit my students as well as parents. We use technology and the internet in our classroom to research topics, view images of animals and places we may never get to see. These items will engage my students, give them access to other learning modalities, and meet their individual learning needs more effectively. This will increase the level of student engagement and achievement. In the process of storytelling, they will become more creative, gain speaking skills, and improve their verbal organizing skills and their ability to empathize.
Digital Storytelling is a great way to integrate technology and engage students in deeper thinking about the curriculum as well as help them become powerful communicators.
Children are often bursting to tell their stories, and I want to help them to become good storytellers.
We will be able to project an end of the year Photo Story with music to show parents their children’s growth throughout the school year. A Photo Story is a great way to showcase something we have been working on in class with your students or to communicate with parents. Students will be able to tell stories and even create as well as project instructional videos in the classroom such as how to wash your hands or the rules of our classroom. Digital storytelling provides a great way for engaging students in the curriculum while building creativity, communication, and critical thinking. These lessons are a great way to get started.
