My Students

I have been a Special Education teacher in a diverse and urban school community for five years. I just started my fifth year as a resource specialist teacher. What makes my classroom special is that my students are always provided with equal learning opportunities and I never allow my students to give up on themselves. I always push my students to do well and encourage them to keep trying their best no matter how many tries it takes them. My students are absolutely dedicated and passionate about learning in the special education setting.

I want to teach my students to change their mindsets from "I can't" to "I can.”

Throughout the few years that I've been teaching, I have met all sorts of students who have all helped me grow to become the teacher that I am today and I thank them every day for that. I have learned that different students learn in different ways and my students learn to adapt their learning styles so that they can continue learning new things. Then they can have the most valuable and versatile learning experience in my classroom.

My Project

We are not entering our 3rd year of the pandemic and everyday, we risk the fear of getting covid while in school or in the community. A lot of student thought that since they didn't get it, they were safe. Our community is being affected by this pandemic because parents of our students have to go back to work and be exposed to others because they can't risk not working and staying home. A lot of our low-income families have to continue working and they don't get the lastest information regarding the newest district rules because they don't understand English.

This is why I am asking for a projector so my students and I can create socially distanced family information night to inform parents of the latest pandemic related news for those parents who work late or don't understand English.

My students want to spread awareness so that their parents and family can know how to stay safe and how to prevent the spread of covid from school to home and vice versa during afternoon informational presentations. Due to the age and frequent use of my old projecter, it is on the brink of burning out and will no longer available for continuous use because it overheats in 20 minutes. My students would use this project to make community slide shows to help them practice public speaking as well. Having this projector can help us make this community project a dream come true.
