My Students
I have the privilege to work with wonderful, curious, creative, and caring 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in Chinatown in New York City. I teach in inclusion classes (both general education students and students with special needs). It is so wonderful so see all of the students guiding each other's learning throughout each school day, be it in a core academic subject, a group project, or on a field trip.
I teach at a Title I school which is located near several housing projects.
Many of the students receive free lunch. Most of the students speak Chinese and English, and my school is predominantly made up of Chinese, African-American, and Hispanic children. My school puts an emphasis on making sure all students feel successful across subjects. My students are always excited to learn new things, use new materials, and have new experiences!
My Project
In my ICT (inclusion) class, it is important for my co-teacher and I to have two digitally-equipped teaching spaces in order to provide my students with more one-to-one instruction. Right now, we can only provide instruction as a whole class. My students with special needs would benefit from having another projector to be able to get lessons in smaller groups. Often times, students get lost if we can't provide them with lessons in smaller groups.
My students, especially the ones with special needs, would be more engaged and would be able to have more support from the teacher with a new projector and mount.
This technology would enable them to participate in the curriculum digitally in smaller groups. This new technology would make the classroom a better learning environment for all of my students.
