My Students
Only chalkboards?? I couldn't believe my eyes. We live in a technology-driven world, and I only have chalkboards? On their first day in High School, my students asked me where the projector was - why I couldn't SHOW them what I was talking about. You can help!
The majority of my students come from underprivileged, unsafe neighborhoods in center city.
Many of them cannot afford books, supplies, and other required materials. Many also qualify for free or reduced lunch due to their economic position.
Their real-life experiences are so utterly gut-wrenching and terrifying that I have trouble understanding how they have had the strength to persevere to where they are today.
Even with all of the pain, heartbreak, and obstacles my students have faced in their young lives, they have made it safely to high school...and are looking forward to furthering their education with college degrees. They are sweet, polite, proper, and deserving of a "gift" from those who care to donate.

Sorry...but chalkboards are so yesterday!
I don't mind being a bit old-school, and writing with chalk once in a while, but students need to SEE math to learn it!
Imagine trying to learn 3-dimensional geometric shapes on a chalkboard. How about coordinate grids and graphing polynomial functions? Any takers? It just isn't practical. The time it takes to write, erase, and write again wastes MINUTES of each class period. In a day and age where mathematics is stressed so much in our schools, my children are at a disadvantage from the moment they step into my classroom - and not because I cannot teach (because I can, and I love to) - but because nearly 5-10% of their class is wasted...EVERYDAY!
Technology, used properly, creates focus, efficiency, and success.
It helps students by creating another way for them to process information. A projector would bring an entirely new dynamic to the classroom - interactive lessons, creative projects, and web-based learning. Help my students have the same opportunities as others do. Their determination alone is reason enough for reward - why not surprise them with something that they can truly benefit from.
