Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are a public high school library in a city school district, where many scholars are diverse, multiple language learners, and at-risk readers. My scholars are eager to learn, excel, and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. I enjoy providing scholars with a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while promoting equitable access and allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.

This virtual author and artist visit will show kids that anything is possible as they see themselves represented in the illustrator, a recent Dominican American public high school graduate from New York.

Racial equity is seeing themselves represented when virtual guest visitors come to the library. Justin, the illustrator, will encourage hands-on creativity, artistic learning and fun. They will learn to persist when they feel as if they are stumbling. The illustrator will show kids through Zoom how to get all their creativity out and challenge themselves to produce each day. Seeing themselves represented in different roles is the first step in dreaming and creating new futures.

Let's raise the bar and ask our kids to start creating, instead of consuming. I am teaching the next Steve Jobs and need your help reaching them all! Thank you for your time, support and consideration of public-school children and school libraries.
