Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school in a city school district. In our public city school, many scholars are diverse, multiple language learners, and at-risk readers. Currently, the entire school population receives free breakfast and lunch. Many scholars are also from low-income households. However, they are warm, loving, and continually searching for ways to grow and become better each day. I am honored to teach such wonderful children.
I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while promoting equitable access and allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.
My scholars are eager to learn, excel, and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for 19 years, and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.
My Project
Project Transformation will directly address students' emotional well-being and mental health. Scholars are super stressed with testing and not having been in school consistently for a year. The weight of the world is on them and they have rapidly become adults without having really having had a teenage experience. Our kids now worry about not only their socio-economic environment, but also violence, food insecurity, life after school, and the pandemic. Journals will be given for reflective writing purposes.
By using these adhesive wallpapers resembling gray bricks and trees, students will be directly responsible for transforming their school library into an outdoor looking peaceful sanctuary.
Creating a natural and harmonious environment will help shine little rays of happiness into their everyday environment and lives. The physical surroundings can help foster social and emotional clarity and mental wellness. The journals will help them focus their thoughts and ideas. Thank you for your consideration, support, and time. When you can about public school children, you care about the future.
