This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are going to explore the psychological aspect of the medical field. My students come from difficult environments and many have experienced one form of trauma growing up. They don't discuss it, but express it through art, dressing style, and short stories. I want them to explore more how art therapy helps people in the real world who have gone through traumatic experiences. I want them to create images of a traumatic experience they have gone through. The teacher will participate and present their creation to the classroom, which has been developed into a safe environment. The teacher will lead by example and hope students will be able to express their trauma and feel better in the end. The medical field offers many departments and this teacher is trying to expose her students to as many as possible. Help me create the next Dr. Phil or Lev Vygotsky. We have done the surgical field, human anatomy, and patient care. Now we want to explore the psychological section of the medical world.
Art therapy promotes healing from dramatic trauma and is a new area of study.
My students need basic medical supplies to learn more about the different sections that the medical field has to offer like Art Therapy which is helping them heal their soul from childhood trauma.
We are a Title I, Performance Improvement school, with 100% participation in the free lunch program. Many parents work two jobs and are struggling to support the family. Though their environment may not be conducive to learning, my students have an insatiable love of learning! I know that if we provide them with the right support, resources, opportunities, and medical tools they can explore the different sections of the medical world.
