My Students

We are home to approximately 760 students in Kindergarten through fourth grade. We are a community school with a talented, dedicated, and caring staff who are committed to the success of all students. Creating a holistic development of each student is the goal of our caring, dedicated faculty and staff. Through collaboration and partnerships with parents, students, and the community, we provide an academically challenging and supportive learning environment for all students. A warm, friendly learning space awaits each student as they enter the child-centered classrooms of our sweet school.

Our school motto is " be safe, be kind, be responsible" and our 760 students, staff, and families take that to heart.

A network of support is provided to meet the social, emotional, and academic needs of each student. 21st-century skills are taught proactively as a foundation for success. We strive to make sure that our students have positive self-worth, respect for others, and a sense of personal responsibility for their actions.

My Project

To prepare our students for the ever-changing world we live in, we can introduce diverse books and materials focusing on invisible and visible diversities.

This experience will provide elementary students with an opportunity to develop 21st-century skills in empathy, compassion, and cultural understanding.

My plan is to send a survey to families asking them about their talents, languages, experiences, and expertise.

I will make every family feel welcome by inviting family members to share suitcases (suitcases could focus on language, heritage, stories about conquering adversity, talents, traditions, and/or culture.)

Then I'll invite students in secondary buildings to share their suitcase or provide them with a pre-made suitcase.

Volunteers can present their suitcase to a classroom (preferably multiple classrooms) for a given grade level on a monthly basis.

Each volunteer will develop a presentation focusing on their suitcase topic with an accompanying activity or discussion (ideally 35 minutes in length).

Pre-made suitcases with coinciding activities will be made featuring culturally diverse children’s books; hopefully, this collection of suitcases will continue to grow with family and community support. If volunteers are not available, teachers have the option of signing suitcases out.

Regardless of who is in our classrooms, all students will get to see a window into the range of possibilities out in the world. For some students, this may be the first time they are exposed to differences in culture, skin color, religion, and lifestyle; therefore, it’s important that their introduction is one of nonjudgment and supportive acceptance.

When we build bridges, we are opening up exciting new worlds of learning for all children.
