I greet my 7th and 8th grade students at the door each morning when they enter our classroom for homeroom at 8am. During homeroom, I make sure that each student has eaten breakfast and that they are ready to go for the day! "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." -Benjamin Franklin
I teach special education in a low income school district.
I have twelve 7th and 8th grade students that I work with everyday. My students are kindhearted, energetic, and fun to be around. Even though many of them deal with adversities at home on a daily basis, they still come to school eager to work and learn. We do not have a lot of funding at our school to purchase expensive technology, but, what we do have, are good teachers, strong leadership, and an overall drive to educate our students to the best of our abilities.
My Project
Currently, I have two chalkboards in my classroom and one working computer. With a projector, I would be able to project images, videos, and online resources onto the board for my students. Most of my students are visual learners, so it is very important that I use as many visual resources as possible to aid in their learning. With the projector, I could display items for the entire class to see, which would save time and paper by eliminating the number of copies that I have to make everyday. I also have a student with a visual impairment, and the projector would allow me to expand the size of images for her to be able to see them.
My students have very limited access to technology at home and at school.
The projector would allow me to teach using the multitudes of resources available on the internet, including educational videos, digital versions of primary sources, and online resources available through our current math curriculum. In addition to motivating my students, this project would also dramatically improve the instruction that I am able to provide to my students.
