Remember the collaborative experiences you had in high school? Working in groups and collaborating on ideas is a 21st century skill that most workplace environments expect. This is what I hope to bring to my classroom.
My students are extremely bright with aspirations of going on to major universities.
While they are academically competitive and strive for the highest grade point averages possible, the classes comprise students whose socioeconomic backgrounds make it difficult to afford ancillary materials for class. Since this is a science class, priority within the school's limited budget is spent on lab resources, not on items that help students better interact with the course material. As a result, the resources in my classroom are ones I purchase or are donated.
This project will fund a color printer, which will be used for printing color diagrams for students and it will be shared among teachers. Having this resource will enable students to understand the working parts of the Earth's layers, the components of the cell, or the intricacies of an animal's anatomy. Students will be able see the divisions on color print outs rather than struggle to interpret black and white copies that are often difficult to read. Access to a color printer will also allow the teacher to pour her resources into other classroom needs.
