My students need these blocks and home living kitchen materials to build our classroom play and project ideas areas. Blocks is a popular area and has spawned several buildings and construction projects in previous years.

My Students

My class of kindergarteners is always excited to work together and learn in the classroom. They are busy from the moment they walk in the door in the morning to the moment they leave in the afternoon. We work on academics through hands on learning, but there is also an opportunity for play and project work throughout the day.

The hands on learning my students do make the skills and strategies they are learning during academic times real.

They are able to practice in small groups with their peers or with my guidance. The play and project time my students channel their interests and wonderings to dive deeper and work on community building skills, social skills, and emotional skills. The projects and learning that have come from student interests has amazed me over the years. They stay engaged and we can weave the topic throughout the curriculum. There is always something exciting going on each day in the classroom.

My Project

I am moving to a new school and classroom, and in my new classroom there are no blocks for students to use to build. There is also a home living area, but no materials for it. These materials in this project will give my students manipulatives to use to launch projects.

In previous years, my students have so enjoyed the blocks area and building with blocks that it has spurred two projects around building: construction and different types of buildings.

In the new kitchen area in my classroom, students will be able to use the food and plates to explore kitchen and food areas. This could possibly launch a food or grocery project. In both areas, there are endless possibilities for students to pursue their interests, use their emerging academic skills, and enjoy playing with their friends.
