This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am teaching a high school piano class fully enrolled with 29 students, and they are all truly interested in learning piano. The challenge is that I only have two 88-key pianos, and both of those have a few stuck keys! Most students are learning on 61-key electric keyboards that do not even have touch sensitive keys. I teach in a high school with 1,700 students and there is high interest in learning piano. The current quality of pianos available in the lab are just not adequate for a high school piano class.
Help me build the level of piano lab that my high school students deserve; weighted, 88-key pianos with pedals, one piano at a time.
Studies have shown again and again that involvement in music has high correlation with academic achievement. Piano is one of the most diverse instruments students can learn, they can play alone, in a band, in church, and they can play all types of music. It is truly a lifelong instrument. My students deserve the opportunity to learn on quality instruments.
