My Students

I aim to help my students own the skills and confidence to realize their dreams.

I want them to dream big. The elementary school I work in has about 400 students, most of whom come from low income families of various backgrounds. I teach in a Spanish Bilingual Classroom where more than 90% of students are English Learners. Some of my students are also not proficient in Spanish. They often come into second grade with low reading and writing scores in Spanish and English. Many of the students are not yet independent thinkers and have difficulty articulating their thoughts both orally and in writing. Often they lack confidence to problem solve and defend their thinking in both languages. However, they are often intimidated by English. My goal is to show them all they can do in both languages.

My Project

Please allow us to project our work during our daily mini lessons in all subjects. When reading we will look at a passage to discuss our understanding of the text or how to decode difficult words. Looking at the text projected will allow us to deconstruct the sentence structure, analyze the vocabulary and use the text to support our opinions. When writing we will edit our work together by projecting it. We can also look at sample paragraphs and move sentences around to organize them better. There are several math and science websites that allow us to look at models about what we are learning. Having a projector will allow the teacher to show us how to do a problem using online manipulative models. In science we can find information about the topics that we are learning, search for answers to our questions or take virtual field trips of some of the museums around the bay area. In social studies we can research important figures, explore maps and learn about the world around us.
