This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in our room are curious, intelligent, helpful, and hilarious. They are thinkers and doers. They are optimistic and resilient. They are kids.
Kids who get up each day with a mindset to fulfill their potential, despite their circumstances.
They are my students, my kids, my squad, my family.
Each one of my students has a unique story to tell. They come from a variety of neighborhoods and families. They have varying beliefs and cultural differences but the one thing that they all have in common is their willingness to learn and go above and beyond. My students are a community of learners, but nonetheless, a community.
My Project
School has become a factory. We pump essential knowledge into students' heads so they perform well on standardized tests and the cycle repeats itself year after year. This academic year, my students and I are returning to reading, and to do this, we are setting up our first classroom library.
I have an ambitious goal for my students to read 40 books this year, but we need your help!
By donating, you will help provide a multitude of culturally relevant texts that are stimulating and enjoyable for my students. The best part about the library is that students will have a choice in what they want to read!
By returning to reading, we are increasing vocabulary, comprehension, and analysis! Students who never saw themselves as avid readers will find excitement in independent reading time and students who already read extensively will be delighted by the material.
