My students are in an Access Points self contained classroom in Tampa! They have intellectual disabilities, such as Autism and Down Syndrome, as well as students with visual impairments. They require the use of visuals for all activities and I try to make things as much fun as possible with the use of interactive games, sensory activities, and hands on crafts and experiments. They are all very sweet and I look forward to raising funds to try and increase their learning experience at school.
My Project
These tablets have so many functions and applications that will help enrich student learning for each child in my classroom. My students love interactive learning games, stories and lessons. Visuals with vocabulary are necessary for every activity and lesson that I create for my students, so the applications can help eliminate some of the time spent on making manipulatives and instead focus on enriching lessons. The tablets will assist with student learning in all subject areas, which will also be something that they can look forward to using and aide in their learning.
These devices will allow my nonverbal and lower functioning students to be able to participate in group learning and discussions by being able to manipulate and share their answer choices aloud, as well as promote student engagement at the same time.
I strongly feel that these tablets will be a very effective hands-on approach to teaching my low and higher level students, as well as encourage positive behavior choices in the classroom, which will ultimately promote a higher level of learning for all.
