My Students

My students come from a rural town located North on the Big Island of Hawaii. We live in a small town where everyone knows everyone and in that sense we’re like one family or what we call Ohana.

My students embody the Aloha Spirit that Hawaii is known for by living out its core values which are aloha (to have compassion and empathy); 'imi na'auao (to seek wisdom); mālama (to care for and protect); 'ike pono (to know and do what is right); kuleana (to take responsibility); ho'omau (to preserve and perpetuate); and ha'aha'a (to be humble).

My students come from different backgrounds, ethnic groups, and socioeconomic backgrounds. More than 1/2 of our students qualify for free or reduced-priced meals and come from low-income homes.

My students are feeling anxious about successfully completing a rigorous school load, while also preparing for what comes next after high school. Now that they are back to school in-person, we want to show and give them the support they need to be successful in their final year of high school and beyond.

My Project

Project Graduation was established in response to escalating injuries among graduates involved in alcohol and drug related accidents on graduation night. Myself, along with the school Project Graduation Committee and the Class of 2022 are planning to continue preventing tragedies here on Hawaii Island. We are a non-profit organization that encourages making good choices throughout the school year. We aim to protect our graduates when they are most vulnerable. The Seniors will be creating memories with their classmates that they can cherish for a lifetime at this memorable and safe event on graduation night starting at 6pm on Saturday, May 21st 2022.

First Aid Kits have proven to protect and save lives.

I wanna make sure my students are ready to treat minor injuries, cuts, scrapes and burns. Some kits include survival & life-saving emergency supplies or convenience items like bug sting wipes or cold & flu medicines.

Their password book will help my students keep track of the many websites and passwords they create when they apply for jobs, college and scholarships. Remembering passwords can be a challenge.

Our students and their families faced hardships during the pandemic. Many parents work in the hospitality industry which was forced to shut down for most of the pandemic causing uncertainty with jobs and income to households. Needless to say, students have been negatively affected in some way because of the economic uncertainty and stress that comes with it.

Their Survival Bags/Kits will include items to help with anxiety, hygiene, nutrition, organization and academic support as some of our students' parents have been out of work and these survival items are needed or will be greatly appreciated.
