A classroom is sometimes the only safe place in a student's life. As a teacher of students who live in high poverty, it is important to provide a home away from home where these kiddos can feel safe, know they are loved, and ultimately can learn.
Flexible seating provides different spaces for learning and comfort to create an effective classroom culture!
Each child in my classroom loves to learn, although the ways in which they learn differ from student to student. As a class, we incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! These students are truly spectacular and I am glad to have the opportunity to grow and learn alongside them!
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and empowers them to make choices that work best for them. While working independently, students are able to choose a place in the classroom that works for them. My students are currently able to work at their desks, at tables around the room, on the floor, or at crate seats near a counter.
I have seen how student choice leads to higher engagement and more focused and effective work time.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The fidget bands and ball chairs will allow small, non-disruptive movement for students with the wiggles. The stability balls and beanbag chairs will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow more!
