Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our sixth grade students collectively have a diverse background. We constantly engage in deep discussions about current and historical events and how different points of view should be heard and critically examined.
Sixty eight percent of students at our school qualify for free and reduced rate lunch and 40% of them are English Language Learners, which gives our classrooms many perspectives.
I want to give each one of them opportunities to express their skills and opinions in safe, creative ways that they may not normally get.
My Project
My students just returned to in-person hybrid learning. We do a lot of video projects and assessments and I want to give them a different way to create projects while staying socially distanced. As we learn about different ancient civilizations and how geography influenced their development, I also want students to see how the area around our school can affect us today.
This drone will not only benefit my classroom but the whole school community.
As the teacher lead for Student Leadership Council, the students in Student Council frequently make informational videos for the rest of the student body as well as families. They are also in charge of hosting any school assemblies so the drone will enhance all of these events and projects.
