Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are located in one of San Antonio's most economically disadvantaged areas.

One hundred percent of the students at our campus receive free breakfast, lunch, and supper.

My students are upcoming 2nd graders and participate in our dual language program. Unlike the rest of the school, my students don't only face the challenges that come with coming from low socioeconomic status, but many of them also face other challenges due to their Limited English Proficiency.

These children come to school to learn grade-level content in both English and Spanish, and some do it while also trying to acculturate to their new home.

My Project

Project D.R.A.W will consist of developing 2nd graders into incredible readers and writers! Part of the items like the bean bags, dry erase paint and markers will primarily be to create a reading corner where students can enjoy a great book and write instantly about it! Reading responses assure that our children are understanding and besides, who does not love the idea of writing on a wall?

Fantastic readers become fantastic writers, which is why our goal will to foster these skills.

Other items like the whisper phones will be used both independently and as a class so that students can practice different reading skills as they emerge as fluent readers.
