My Project
Projects are a memorable way to engage my second graders in learning! Most teachers front the cost of supplies from their own pocket. On many occasions, I have done so without a second thought. Yet all these small purchases can really add up.
As we study various cultures and celebrate monthly holidays, I include as many projects as I can throughout the school year.
One particularly popular project amongst my students is our Holidays Around the World Suitcases. Equipped with passports, stamps, exit tickets, and postcards, my students get to study the food, events, customs and traditions of various countries. Last year my class created beautiful pastel snowmen to take home as a gift to their families for the winter break. This was an opportunity to learn about shading and the perception of distance, while producing a thoughtful keepsake.
This year, receiving basic supplies for such projects will be a little more difficult because our school is dealing with severe budget cuts. However, I am hopeful that with your generous support I can continue to nurture the creativity of my students and their love for learning. Thank you!
