Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These year, we have created a new school-wide project-based learning unit for each quarter. The first quarter focused on ELA and learning how to write scripts by creating anti-bullying skits with complete scripts and props. This quarter we are focusing on social studies. Students are working in pairs on a different topic under the social studies umbrella to create a 5- minute video using ClipChamp. We will watch all the videos during our school-wide film festival (we only have 54 students in the whole school). Fourth quarter, students will work in pairs to create an interactive science fair. For example, students might have a board with nails and attach a string, wire, yarn, rubber band and rope. Guests will have to guess which material will make the loudest sound and then pluck to find out. The students would make an accompanying trifold display that explains why a certain material made a louder sound. (The leftover materials in this project request will also be used for this unit)

Third quarter, we are focusing on learning about our community and encouraging our community to get involved with our school.

Students will work in pairs to interview a representative of a business or organization in our community. Students will learn all about that business or organization, create a display on a tri-fold board, and create a flyer and business card for their business or organization using Canva. We have the tri-fold boards but not many other materials to complete them. The glue, markers and craft materials in this project will benefit students by providing them with materials to be creative as they learn all about our community.
