My Students

Motivated, one of many words that describe the students in my classroom. They are always ready to learn and anxious to master a new concept. With that being said, I hope to give these students the resources to further their education not only only the classroom, but in a lifetime of learning.

My students have been one of the biggest blessings of my life.

I've been lucky enough to have a great group that strives to learn more on a daily basis. They are truly learners that want to expand their view of the world. Unfortunately, many of them struggle to quench their thirst for knowledge. 92% of our student population are economically disadvantaged which leaves them with the inability to truly unlock their potential outside the school walls. I can, however, say that our school has been supportive of our community. In October of 2013, our community encountered a devastating flood that affected more than 100 students at our school. Our school bonded together to help these families ease their transition from one home to another and start a life all over again. The students in my classroom deserve the ability to learn to their fullest extent and I hope to do this by teaching them real life abilities that will help them for years to come.

My Project

Our school has a vision of project based learning in every classroom. This means that the students will be able to research information and learn more than what a textbook can offer. This type of teaching allows the students to explore learning in a more interactive and exciting way. My vision is to see the students learn to use technology to research topics to expand their understanding of a topic to the fullest extent. The students would also be able to use the requested Kindle Fire tablets to read during our hour of independent reading. The idea of reading from an electronic device is one that many of these student dream of and helps motivate them to continue their journey as scholars. Besides this, our school takes part in Accelerated Reading, which is a computer based literacy program that asks students questions regarding their book once they have finished reading them. This program gives them points for quizzes that they pass which motivates them even more to read.

Coming from a background similar to these students, I realize the importance of having every opportunity possible being available to them.

I dream that they see the excitement of learning and take it upon themselves to not only advance their education, but their love of learning, as well.
