I am a Learning Design Coach located at a newer school that is in its fifth year of life in Pasco County, Florida. Our first-grade classes are very diverse with different backgrounds, socioeconomic levels, and learning needs. There are nine classes in all including gifted inclusion, a specialization split, and a sensory behavior communication unit.
Our students are energetic and ready to learn, discover, and explore.
We have a high percentage of gifted learners and high achieving students who need enrichment and deep critical thinking that surpasses the baseline curriculum.
My Project
I am requesting resources that will help to engage my gifted learners in the process of research and writing about American symbols and their importance in our history!
After they research American Symbols, they will work to create their own new symbol for the United States with a justification as to why that symbol would be worthy of being one for the history books.
Through this project, teachers are working to instill the love of research and inquiry, writing, history, critical thinking, and a creative product. Students will then participate in a culminating activity to present their projects.
Glow party supplies will be used for critical thinking and problem-solving STEM enrichment club that 25 students are invited to attend with our District Gifted Resource Teacher each week. They will work on the six hats of critical thinking and apply their skills to solve complex and challenging problems.
