Programming Laptops Need Solid State Drives

About My Students

Our wonderful student Daniel is a hard working member of the programming division of our school's robotics team. He is the student behind the scenes, developing all the Java code that makes the team's robot perform to the highest levels in competition.

Daniel recently encountered a problem in which our existing programming laptops' hard drives were completely filled after installing all the necessary software. In order to gain more storage space, he wants to upgrade the hard drives to ones with greater capacity. In addition, he thought that we should have a new mini-pc computer for our pit area display, so we don't need to use a bulky laptop which takes up too much space.

Academically, students will learn skills in Java computer programming and logical and analytical thinking while applying mathematics to solving the real-life challenge of programming a competition robot vehicle. Furthermore, students will develop social-skills in teamwork, collaboration, and presentation through the process of working on the project and showcasing it at the competition.

In Their Own Words

Our programming subdivision of our robotics team at our school has been using computers that are starting to run sluggishly and are running low on space. We have new computers available but they need more storage space. We need to get two solid state drives, for the two computers we currently have, that have enough storage space for all the software we use in our robotics team.

I will organize with other members of the robotics team here at our school to prepare all of our devices. For the solid state drives with the programming computer, we will be working together to take apart the computer, take out the current hard drive, and replace the current hard drive with the solid state drives we get through DonorsChoose.

This project will allow us to move the technology we are currently using forward, enabling us to do more complex and advanced tasks that are required of us. It will also enable us to be able to save more files that we need and having all the software we need to work on our robot. Having all the software we need on a computer that can run it all without freezing up or running out of space is very crucial for our team and our future robotics events.
