My Students

How do you remember your days of school? Was it in a sterile environment with plain walls, rows of desks, and a teacher in front of the room? A typical day in our room is nothing like that. I work hard to create an environment that encourages learning and risk taking.

My class is made up of 25 third grade boys and girls of mixed races in Arkansas.

They attend a Title I school, which means there is a high enough percentage of free and reduced-price lunch to qualify. Our school is an "open classroom" concept, which is very unique as there are no walls separating the classrooms. These 8 and 9 year-old students are very eager learners; they are like sponges, absorbing all the information and experiences and keep on wanting more.

My Project

Imagine an eight year child knowing how circuits work and how to program a computer. The items I have asked for will allow just that in my classroom. What better way to learn about electronics and circuit boards then to use them in many different ways using the Ozbot and Kindle Fires. The best part of these tools is they can be used by both novice and advanced students challenging them in different ways. Using these tools will also encourage students to be more proficient in all areas of STEM ensuring them success as they grow in today's technological world.

The items I have asked for will help my students expand their learning by using different types of technology as well as encouraging them to grow using STEM skills.

We don't know where technology will be tomorrow, so we need to have students who are problem solvers, thinkers, and doers. The items I have asked for will help me accomplish that in each and everyone of my students ensuring that we have great leaders of tomorrow.
