My Students
I teach in a very low income school. Our school scores are usually low and that is one of the reasons the school was chosen to be a digital pilot school. All my kindergartens are issued iPads during the first month of school. This has drastically boosted attendance and the curiosity of my kiddos.
The iPad as a versatile, powerful tool that is changing the face of education.
Software and apps are engaging and dynamic, increasing student engagement time. However, apps are secondary to good, solid teaching. To present suitably challenging lessons, I have to spend hours creating digital content. This becomes a problem because I don't own my own laptop. I was issued a laptop from my school district, but since it is not a Mac and all the kids have iPads, it creates a challenge merging these different platforms.
Here are some of the frustrating problems I face: I cannot create digital content to merge seamlessly with my students' iPads. My school-issued laptop is thoroughly outdated. It crashes constantly and I lose most of my data. During summer months, I have to return my school-issued laptop. Many times, I have to visit the local library to create lessons to push out to my students' iPads.
My Project
Every Mac comes with Apple's Safari web browser, Apple's email program Mail, iPhoto for editing images and organizing your photo library, iMovie for making fun home movies, GarageBand so you can become a musician, iTunes for your music, Pages for word processing, Numbers for spreadsheets, and Keynote for presentations. These apps are familiar to the ones found on the students' iPads. If I could have a Mac with a protection plan, I can learn this software and apps better and more effectively teach this to my students.
I am willing to work long, hard extra hours to meet the needs of my students.
However, I need community help. I can do so much more if I had this resource. Please help me to help my sweet kids.
