Productivity in Professional Development

I need these tables as part of a learning center that I am creating for teacher professional development. We need an area that is set up for practice teaching our focused professional development.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach in a Title I school. All (100%) of our students get a free lunch. Our students come to us from all corners of Tallahassee and surrounding areas. Their parents want a better education for them. They want more than the local schools can provide. We have parents that travel up to an hour to get here daily. The kids are used to the bare minimum, where their education is concerned. My 15 boys and 10 girls are used to being met with an average expectation. At our STEM school, we go above and beyond what is expected. We prove to these kids daily that we will do anything and everything in our power to give them an excellent-extraordinary-education.

My Project

As a charter school teacher, I am always searching for great professional development. Our staff always want to share what they have learned. We gather and we give speeches and display power points.

Who wants to walk in their classroom looking like a rookie!

We do not! Our kiddos deserve better. We do not want to just reteach our professional development. We want to practice it and work together to learn it. This way we can walk into our classroom and teach it like a professional. The kids will learn faster and better with confident teachers who are willing to learn.

In this learning center, teachers will be coming together on Wednesdays and Fridays several times a month. We will have a sponsor teaching the lesson and the teachers will practice working within curriculum to learn how to better teach common core standards in the classroom. There just is not enough of this in college prep classes. We will be doing training in Everyday Math, Reading Wonders, Studies Weekly, and Interactive Science. One of the most important things that we will be learning is how to bridge the curriculum to another subject. How to teach reading and social studies using the same materials. How can I include science standards into my math class. The tables will serve as a small model classroom. The teachers will take their place and go through the lesson and then complete assignments as if they are the students. They will prepare bridged lesson plans and then take turns teaching each other as the teachers take turns being the students. We want our instructors working on point in the classroom mixing and matching subject matter! Please help us make this dream come true.
