A key aspect of both students' academic and personal success is their social-emotional development. Social-emotional learning is one of the least "valued" areas in education yet one of the most important for children's development.
Big emotions often hinder students' ability to make and keep friends.
My students are doing a great job navigating through the school year but they are still kids exploring their big feelings in the big world. Since in-person learning and social interactions were limited for students in their early years and many of my students are healing from traumatic events, we are spending extra time creating a strong classroom community, learning social-emotional skills, and building self-management skills.
