Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come into my classroom everyday hoping to learn, be inspired and have fun. Just your typical middle schoolers! Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 70% who receive free or reduced lunch. Therefore, most of our students come to school with minimal supplies for school.
Our school is a rural public school with two resort towns on both ends of our valley, with about 350 students total.
Our students also speak at least two different languages, English and Spanish are the most common.
My Project
So many middle school students are seeking a good book where the main character is entangled in a mystery and needs to solve it in order to stay alive!
Mystery books can hook in a seventh grader with interesting conflicts and characters.
This genre is not a typical choice for this age group of students, but once they are introduced to it, look out, because they are hooked!
My higher readers are always big fans of reading a great mystery and trying to outthink the villain. This genre can be a challenge to those students who can read at a higher level!
