Of the many difficulties my students have had to overcome in their lives, this pandemic has been one of the worst. I had no idea that I would not get to see my students and encourage them in person again this year.
My students are hardworking students who love learning and are striving to be the first in their families to attend college.
Many of my students are working jobs, taking care of siblings, and helping out their parents while continuing to work on their school work. They are using cellphones, borrowed laptops, and driving parking lots to use free WiFi because they have limited access to technology at home.
Even though the year has been disrupted, my students continue to work toward gaining the knowledge they will need to be successful in college. We are learning chemistry which is challenging in the best of circumstances but has been made more difficult due to the pandemic.
My Project
My energetic and diligent students have been working hard learning to solve chemistry problems using Google Meets, Google Classroom, YouTube, and other video platforms. However, they would benefit from a digital tablet and pen that I can use to solve problems in real-time with them as they ask specific questions.
This project will supply me with a digital tablet and pen and a set of noise-canceling headphones to better communicate and problem-solve with my students.
When we return to school, I can use these tools to make tutorial videos and record in-class lessons for later use by students as tutorials or reference materials. Students can also use the digital tablet to project their work and share it with the class.
