Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fifth-grade students are amazing with unlimited potential, but limited resources to fully explore their ideas. The students come from low-income homes where for some, they only interact with educational items is at school. Our entire school receives free breakfast and lunch, My students have a genuine love for learning. They love to come in early and stay late to help and learn. I want to be able to nurture that love before it is lost. Every year I have the pleasure of teaching students from varying abilities, from highly gifted learners to special needs students, but they all bring the same thing to my class: the love of learning and the eagerness to do their best. Being a person with a disability myself I want to show them that anyone can be successful regardless of their limitations. I want to fulfill my duty and give them every opportunity they deserve.
My Project
Having an iPad will give my class the opportunity to collaborate in group work helping them deepen their learning, social and interaction skills, understanding and proper care of technology.
The tablet will be used in blended learning lessons and centers for STEM (math and science), and allow students to find the best outlet and technology to expand their learning and share it with everyone.
Students will use the tablet for collaboration when it comes to the production of technology-based assignments. Students can share their ideas through collaborative applications and share with the class through our smart tv. The tablet can also be used for math practice skills through math and science centers which would allow me to have activities for both my highest performing gifted learners and most struggling special needs students.
The size of the tablet will allow for many groups of student to comfortably sit together and work. There are truly endless ways to expand the learning in the classroom, and having access to different types of technology is the way to insure that all learners find the tool that works best for them.
