Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at the tip of Texas, bordering Mexico, where my students speak Spanglish. They face many challenges such as dyslexia, special needs, and socioeconomic disadvantage, but that doesn't stop them from dreaming big.
They are determined, hard-working children, willing to learn no matter their circumstances.
I teach second grade bilingual students who inspire me on a daily basis. These students come every day excited to start class. They enjoy hands-on activities, crafts, group activities, and especially working with technology. They face many challenges, but they don't let these challenges take over their learning experience.
Many come without knowing English, but with their determination and support from their families, they are able to conquer everything. Many students are economically disadvantaged. However, none of those factors affect these children because they want to learn. It is very satisfying seeing all these children progress throughout the school year.
I work at a very supportive school where students come first. We are all about meeting our children's needs. Our administrators have created a safe, happy environment for everyone at our school: students, staff, teachers, and parents. I love working at the very tip of Texas where my students are very unique and wonderful.
My Project
iPads in the Classroom are a learning tool that engages and empowers students in their learning. I started using iPads this past November and would not go back to traditional teaching. Students are able to express their thinking through various apps, including a digital portfolio.
iPads make it possible for students to own their learning and feel proud of their own work.
Providing a different approach to learning is my priority as a teacher. I want every student to be able to explore and know what they are able to do. Having a few more iPads will allow me to provide all this to all my population of students.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
