My Students need encouragement and positive rewards for extraordinary behavior. I want my students to experience success and pride. Therefore, I am proposing to give prizes each week for P.R.I.D.E. behavior in the form of trinkets, school supplies, and treats housed in a treasure chest. Even middle school children love prizes from a treasure bin, although they don't like to openly admit it!
Our school strives to plan activities for those students who often "fall through the cracks" because they are so well-behaved and their behavior goes unnoticed.
Our students come from predominantly single parent homes where survival is paramount, not recognizing positive awards for expected, appropriate behavior. We have a dedicated, highly professional faculty, yet "extra" materials to enhance students' confidence and well-being are not available to students on a daily or weekly basis. Most teachers write grants and/or spend their own funds in order to facilitate the "extras" for our children. We have super, awesome students at our school who are worthy of the best!
My Project
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' sense of self worth and confidence. Remember when you were younger and you were rewarded in school by picking an item from the treasure box? I've learned from many years of experience that children will work harder, behave better, and enhance the classroom environment if they know they will receive a weekly reward, even if it's only a gel pen! The items in the treasure box will include pens, pencils, stickers, stress balls, slap bracelets, and treats. The P.R.I.D.E. treasure box will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, it will help to increase their academic progress as well.
