The KIDS Center is an alternative program within a middle school. It offers support for students in grades 6-8 who have learning disabilities, emotional disturbances, autism, and/or have experienced other traumas. Our goal is to help students stay in school, connect with peers, and make the most of their educational experience by providing an atmosphere that is comfortable and encourages quality education.
We strive to build self-esteem and teach social skills, life skills, and team building.
Each year, we look forward to offering many incentives and activities for students to earn. Students earn points throughout the year for their attendance, positive behavior, good effort, and achieving their personal goals which they then can use toward items on their wish lists.
They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have the opportunity to work with them for the whole 3 years that they are here at the middle school!
My Project
Students within our program all have academic and behavioral plans that they work toward each quarter and throughout the year. Incentivizing the students helps them work towards independence and have the understanding of the relationship between work and school.
At Tier 3, students receive more intensive, individualized support to improve their behavioral and academic outcomes.
At this level, schools rely on formal assessments to determine a student’s need and to customize their behavioral plans, which oftentimes includes incentives to outside activities, gift cards, and other rewards.
These rewards and outdoor games will provide many weeks of fun and excitement to our students!
