My students and I live in a rural community on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The vast majority of the people in this area, including the students, fall below the poverty line, due to this our school is able to receive free breakfast and lunch for 100% of the students. Over the last few years our community has been shook (literally and figuratively). We have gone through many changes with lava flows and earthquakes, including a school move due to lava eruptions 4 years ago, to an entire neighborhood being covered tens of feet deep with molten lava just one year ago. I would like to be able to create a prize box for my students in order to facilitate both their educational and social emotional growth, with your support!
My Project
The community I work in and the school I work at are both monetarily challenged to say the least. Children in this community have had to deal with way to many adult problems and I would like to be able to assist in their being children just a bit longer. With your support I would like to use a prize box as motivation for students to continue doing their best in and out of the classroom and as a way to support both academic and social behavioral needs. I hope to be able to create more projects throughout the year. Thank you very much for supporting both my students and myself.
