Students will be delighted to experiment with multiple types of printmaking! Gelli plates will allow students to individually investigate masking with cut-out paper, applying ink with the rubber brayers, transferring images and ultimately create one of a kind monoprints. We have been wanting to purchase Gelli plates for many years. The purpose of the rubber animal forms is to study the Japanese printing process called Gyotaku. Fifth grade students will incorporate the printed animal images into an ecosystem collage which is part of their Science curriculum. Lastly, the cyanotype paper will be used with younger grades, such as PreK and kindergarten, to collect outdoor artifacts and arrange them on the paper. With this paper we can study the strength of the sun and how solar rays affect the paper to create a printed image.
Our students are special because they love interdisciplinary Art lessons and are always in awe when they realize we are learning a subject such as Science in Art Class!
It is my goal to connect to core subject curriculum as often as possible. I feel as though it’s important in helping my students make connections.
