Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach over 150 brilliant 13-18 year old minds and I could not be happier about it. Latino students account for more than 90% in my classes and all my students come from different socio-economic backgrounds and from all walks of life.
Every student I have encountered in my classes has already made me want to be a better teacher for them.
I can tell that some of them have never had a teacher who cares about them and almost all of them are surprised when I constantly tell them that they are important and I care about what they have to say. How amazing would it be to get these students the supplies and education that they deserve and need?
My Project
In the world we live in, there are so many issues that we can use art to bring awareness to. One of the units I've wanted to introduce my students to is printmaking but without all of the supplies needed and without the funds to buy the supplies, I can't introduce them to the beauties of printmaking just yet. Printmaking is a great way to create pieces of art work that can be used to engage the community and make them aware of the political and social struggles that the community faces.
My students would highly benefit from being able to create art that they feel passionate about.
The materials that I hope to get donated would help them begin to create that art and be able to go into their communities to engage their friends, families and community members to the struggles that everyone faces.
