Your generous contribution had had a direct and meaningful impact on our students' educational experience, particularly in developing essential skills like critical thinking and media literacy. \r\nOne of the core ways your donation has helped is by allowing us to incorporate high-quality reading materials, specifically the Upfront magazine by the New York Times, into our \"silent sustained reading\" time. Thanks to your support, reading in the classroom now involves students individually reading engaging diverse and timely content. They utilize pens and markers to actively annotate their magazine, highlighting information and making connections. This approach helps them develop skills that are vital in today's world. \r\nYour gift is an investment in our students' futures, equipping them with the tools they need to become informed citizens. Thank you for your belief in our mission and your commitment to foster a lifelong love of learning and critical inquiry.","fullyFundedDate":1758657866808,"projectUrl":"project/informed-citizens-read-the-news/9747399/","projectTitle":"Informed Citizens Read the News!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Gonzalez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1243027"},{"teacherId":9775457,"projectId":8816414,"letterContent":"On behalf of the students and staff at SBHEM, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation toward supporting our social-emotional learning and mental health initiatives. Thanks to your contribution, we have been able to create meaningful opportunities and spaces that positively impact the well-being of our students. Your kindness is making a real difference in their lives. \r\n\r\nThis year, we introduced mindfulness painting and coloring as a coping mechanism to help students manage the stress and pressures of finals and the anticipation of the winter break. the activity has proven to be a source of peace and focus for many. It allows our students to channel their emotions creatively, giving them a much-needed outlet to navigate their feelings. It has been heartwarming to witness their sense of accomplishment and calm as they engage with their paintings. \r\n\r\nIn addition to mindfulness painting, we enhanced our campus's calming corner with bean bag chairs and posters. This space has become more of a haven for students experiencing mental health challenges during the school day. When students find themselves overwhelmed or on the verge of a mental breakdown, the calming corner has provided them a safe, inviting space to reset and regain composure. \r\n\r\nStudents and staff have both expressed their appreciation for these resources. Students noted how they feel seen and valued and staff members believe these tools help them support students' emotional needs. Your contribution is a vital part of this success and these resources remain a cornerstone of our social-emotional learning efforts.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity. Please know that your support in their project has left a lasting impact on our school community and we are excited to continue using these resources to foster a culture of care and resilience.","fullyFundedDate":1727544444526,"projectUrl":"project/calming-hs-minds-through-art/8816414/","projectTitle":"Calming HS Minds Through Art!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gonzalez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9775457"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_120895","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":206,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":92,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.7,"schoolId":120895,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sylmar Biotech Health & Engineering Magnet on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sylmar Biotech Health & Engineering Magnet","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/sylmar-biotech-health-academy/120895"}
