Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders enrolled in a rural Northeast high school. Our school is a large public high school with nearly 2700 students.

Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with many of our students receiving free lunch.

Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the Northeast.

The students I am primarily involved with are extremely creative and enrolled in the Visual Arts program at our school. I teach analog and digital photography where students are in need of new photography equipment due to our expanding program.

My Project

Our school's Media Center has been closed now for over a month due to a major renovation project that has taken longer than anyone expected. In my digital photography classroom, my students have access to computers; however, they do not have access to any printing capabilities. Computer access and printing facilities around the school have become extremely limited and students are struggling to locate places to print for assignments.

Please help me create a wireless technology cart that will become a vital location in the Visual Arts department for students who urgently need to be able to print assignments for all of their classes.

In my classes, I have projects where students use printed materials in their sketchbooks, idea generation, for reference when working, for photographic transfers and beyond. We also have students who are not enrolled in our classes stopping in all day trying to locate places to print for other classes. In addition, I have my students sharing documents with me on Google Docs that I can print for them after school so they are prepared for class the next day.

This Chromebook and printer would assist any student with a simple task to print independently whenever the need arises. The Chromebook and the printer will be located on a cart and can be shared with the other art teachers in my department. Please consider donating to this important use of technology in our classrooms.
